McDonald’s Recalls 29 Million “Step-iT” Wristbands – Risk of Irritation and Burns
McDonald’s has issued a recall for roughly 29 million “Step-iT” wristbands after receiving dozens of reports that the products can cause skin irritation and burns.
About the McDonald’s Wristband Recall
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that the firm has received more than 70 reports of incidents. At least seven of these reports involve consumers developing blisters after wearing the wristbands.
The recalled wristbands were distributed exclusively by McDonald’s restaurants as part of their Happy Meal and Mighty Kids Meal items. Defective units were distributed between August 9, 2016 and August 17, 2016.
Consumers should take the recalled wristbands from children and return the products to any McDonald’s location.
Description of the Recalled Wristbands
The following information was provided by the CPSC:
- The “Step-iT” wristbands come in two styles:
- “Activity Counter”
- “Light-up Band”
- The “Activity Counter” was made of translucent plastic and was available in orange, blue, and green. It featured a digital screen that would track a child’s steps and other movements.
- The “Light-up Band” was also made of translucent plastic and was available in red, purple, and orange. The product blinks with light as a child moves.
- Both styles had a square face with “Step-iT” printed on it.
