Midea Recalls over 3 Million Dehumidifiers over Serious Fire Hazards

Dehumidifiers manufactured by Midea and sold under 50 different brand names are affected by a recall over a fire and burn risk.

About the Midea Dehumidifier Recall

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), approximately 3.4 million dehumidifiers in the United States are affected by the recall. The recalled units can overheat, smoke, and catch on fire, posing a fire and burn hazard to users and properties.

The manufacturer has received 38 reports of smoke and fire. In addition, approximately $4.8 million worth of property damage has been reportedly linked to the recalled dehumidifiers. There are no injuries reportedly linked to the recalled units.

Consumers are advised to turn off and unplug recalled units and contact Midea for a replacement or partial refund. Consumers with dehumidifiers manufactured before October 1, 2008 will be eligible for a partial refund but no replacement.

The units affected by the recall include the following pint sizes:

• 25, 30, 40, 40, 50, 65, 70, and 75

Recalled dehumidifiers were sold at Lowes, Menards, PC Richard and other stores nationwide between January 2003 and December 2013.
