Nissan Recalls 108,000 Rogue SUVS Due to Risk of Door Injuries
Nissan is announcing the recall of more than 108,000 Rogue small SUVs in the United States due to the rear hatch door possibly falling on people without prior warning.

The recall covers Rogues from the 2014-2016 models.
According to the CNBC, salt water can get into the rear lift gate supports and cause rust. This can ultimately cause the supports to lose gas pressure and break, thus posing a risk of an injury.
Although there has been no incidents in the U.S as of date, Nissan states the Rogues have support struts that are similar to those used in another country that have malfunctioned.
The automaker will notify owners of the vehicles in mid-June and will replace the defective hatch support at no cost to the owners.

- The Wall Street Journal reports that a record 51.26 million vehicles were recalled in 2015.
- Recalls in 2015 were punctuated by the millions of vehicles affected by the Takata airbag defect.
- Carmakers are urged to be more proactive in identifying safety issues, as WSJ proposed that a lot of carmakers are trying to avoid hefty penalties and do not properly report.
- Flat Chrysler, for example, was ordered to pay $70 million for failure to disclose death and injury information, as well as a $105 million fine for failure to address 23 recalls.
