Osprey Announces Recall of 87,000 Child Backpack Carriers
Osprey has announced a recall for more than 87,000 child backpack carriers after determining the products pose a fall hazard to infants.
About the Osprey Child Carrier Recall
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recall involves Osprey Poco, Poco Plus, and Poco Premium child backpack carriers manufactured between January 2012 and December 2014.
Osprey has received four reports of children falling through the carrier’s leg openings. One report resulted in a skull fracture and another resulted in scratches to the child’s head.
The child backpack carriers were sold for between $200 to $300 through REI and specialty stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com.
Description of the Recalled Child Carriers
The following information was provided by the CPSC:
- The nylon child carriers were sold in three colors:
- “Romper Red”
- “Koala Grey”
- “Bouncing Blue”
- The carriers have a metal frame and a gray padded child’s seat.
- The production date can be found stamped to a black label sewn on the interior of a large lower zippered compartment on the back of the carrier.
- Recalled carriers will have one of the following production date codes:
