Over 100,000 Diesel Pickups Recalled – Fire Risk

Jeremiah Ajayi4 weeks ago

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has issued a national recall for approximately 107,898 diesel pickups. The recall was after discovering that the diesel pickups had cracked emissions-control components capable of causing a fire.

Details of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Diesel Pickups Recall

According to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), Michigan-based automaker, the recall relies on the determination that the microscopic cracked components of the diesel pickups can lead to a fire outbreak. Consumer Reports states these cracked emissions-control components are in the 2014 Ram 1500 trucks’ exhaust-gas recirculation coolers. These exhaust-gas coolers comprise the system that lessens tailpipe pollutants in diesel-fueled vehicles.

The presence of cracked emission control components increases fire risk. According to the company, there have been several small fires and few injuries (reportedly four) that happened when the customers tried to mitigate the fire.

FCA urges owners of the recalled vehicles to monitor the fluid agent and contact a car dealer if the level is lower than usual.

However, the recall does not cover the latest generation 2020 diesel Ram 1500 or any gasoline-powered Ram 1500 from any model year.

Asides the national recall in the United States, FCA has also issued a recall of 50,159 diesel-powered trucks in Canada.

Details of the Diesel Pickups

FCA provides the following information about the recalled diesel pickups:

  • The model of the recalled vehicles is the 2014-19 Ram 1500 with diesel engines.
  • Its microscopic cracks can show in the exhaust-gas recirculation
  • The redesigned or gasoline-powered powered Ram 1500 from any year are not involved in the recall.

N.B: You can check if your diesel pickup has been recalled on NHTSA’s website. If you input your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) number on the site and recall does not appear, it means your vehicle is not among FCA’s recalled vehicles.
