Ready-to-Eat Chicken Recalled — Food Hazard

National Steak and Poultry, a meat product company, has recalled over 1.9 million pounds, or 992 tons, of ready-to-eat chicken products, due to a pathogen-related food hazard.

About the Chicken Recall

According to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the chickens have possibly been undercooked, thus allowing bacteria to survive in the product. FSIS recommends that customers avoid consuming their purchased chickens and either discard or return them to the place of purchase.

There have been no “confirmed” reports of negative effects from the chicken consumption as of December 2016; the recall was initiated after a customer made a complaint in November 2016 that his chicken appeared to be undercooked.

Description of Recalled Chickens

  • This recall involves products bearing the establishment number “P-6010T” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

  • These chickens were produced on various dates from August 20 through November 30, shipped to food service locations nationwide and were sold directly to retail consumers at the establishments’ monthly dock sale.
