McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams has voluntarily recalled select 16 oz. ice creams as a result of the FDA finding a risk of potential Listeria Monocytogenes contamination in ice creams produced by a contract manufacturer. The manufacturer, Dr. Bob’s of Upland, LLC., produced seven different flavors for McConnell’s, all of which have been recalled along with all other ice cream products produced by Dr. Bob’s.

About the Ice Cream Recall

The following information is provided by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

No illnesses have been reported.

The bacteria Listeria Monocytogenes was discovered at Dr. Bob’s facility in Upland California and in another company’s product produced at the same facility. Listeria Monocytogenes can cause serious illness and, in cases of impaired immune systems, can be fatal. In a healthy individual the bacteria may cause fevers, headaches, nausea, diarrhea, and miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

Ice creams produced at McConnell’s own facility in Santa Barbara are unaffected by the contamination.

There are seven flavors available in pints involved in this recall that make up 15 percent of all McConnell’s pint packaged ice cream. The aforementioned flavors are Dutchman’s Chocolate, Mint Chip, Peppermint Stick, Salted Caramel Chip, Sweet Cream, Turkish Coffee, and Vanilla Bean.

The pints affected by the recall are sold in retail stores in 41 states across the nation and can be returned to stores for a full refund.

Description of Affected Ice Cream Pints

Each 16 oz. pint is in a cream colored container with a cream and black lid. The McConnell’s label is printed in red across the front while the flavor description and other print on the container’s exterior is in black.

The ‘Best By’ date is printed in black at the bottom of each container. The pints affected have expiration dates ranging from July 2017 to January 2018.
