Self-Balancing Scooters and Hoverboards Recalled — Fire Hazard
World Trading, an American toy and hobby goods supply company, is recalling approximately 1,900 self-balancing scooters and hoverboards due to a fire hazard.
About the Hoverboard Recall
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the lithium-ion battery packs inside the scooters and hoverboards can overheat, thus posing a risk of smoking, catching fire, or even exploding.
While no injuries have been officially reported as of December 2016, CPSC recommends that consumers stop using these products immediately and contact World Trading via phone at 1-877-498-8697 or via email at support@worldtrading23.com to exchange their recalled product for a free UL-certified replacement hoverboard.
Description of Recalled Hoverboards
The following information was provided by the CPSC:
- This recall involves Orbit brand self-balancing scooters and hoverboards, each with two wheels at either end of a platform and powered by lithium ion battery packs.
- Orbit brand hoverboards were sold in six colors: black, blue, gold, green, red and white.
- The brand name “Orbit” is printed on a black sticker on the underside of the hoverboard.
- These scooters were sold through Evine’s televised shopping programs and online at evine.com in December 2015 for about $300.
