Stair-Step Machines Recalled – Fall Hazard
Johnson Health Tech North America has recalled around 10,500 Matrix ClimbMills, a stair-step exercise machine that could pose a fall hazard to its users.
About the Stair-Step Exercise Machine Recall
- According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the potential for fall hazard is due to malfunction of the stop/pause controls on the right handgrip.
- The CPSC recommends that consumers stop using the ClimbMills immediately to avert fall hazard.
- Consumers can contact Johnson Health Tech North America for a free repair. The company is also contacting purchasers directly.
Incidents and Injuries Reported
- The manufacturer has received 19 incident reports about this malfunction.
- Eight of these detailed injuries like scrapes, bumps, and shoulder dislocation.
Description of the Recalled ClimbMills
The following information was provided by the CPSC:
- The Matrix ClimbMills have four steps, are black and gray in color, and have “Matrix” printed on the side.
- The company is only recalling the stair-step exercise machines that have the words “STOP” and “Pause” printed on the right handgrip.
- The frame serial numbers can be found on the bottom front of the base near the power switch.
- The machines were sold by Johnson Health Tech North America and affiliated fitness equipment dealers from December 2011 to September 2015. They sold for between $8,000 and $13,000.
- Commercial buyers of the Matrix ClimbMills have included health clubs, hotels, apartment complexes, rehabilitation centers, schools, and municipal facilities.
