Toyota Recalls 228,000 Tacoma Trucks

Toyota has issued a recall for 228,000 Tacoma trucks after determining that an issue with the vehicles’ rear differential could cause drivers to lose control.

Details of the Toyota Tacoma Recall

CNN Money reports that the recall was issued in response to possible oil leaks in the vehicles’ rear differential (a set of gears that sends power out to the rear wheels). Under continuous operation, an oil leak could cause the rear differential to become damaged.

Damaged rear differential could result in loss of propulsion and in severe cases the rear differential could seize, resulting in driver losing control of their vehicle and increasing the risk of crash.

The recall applies to certain 2016 and 2017 model year Tacoma trucks. Toyota would not comment on whether there have been injuries, crashes, or deaths linked to the recall.

Drivers were recalled vehicles should bring their truck into a dealer to be checked. If an issue is discovered, Toyota will remedy the defect free of charge.
