Toyota Recalls Nearly 1 Million Vehicles to Replace Airbags for Second Time

Toyota has announced a recall for 928,000 Toyota, Scion, and Lexus vehicles to complete it’s final phase of Takata airbag replacements. The vehicles were previously recalled to have temporary airbags equipped in place of “high-risk” Takata airbags that were prone to exploding upon deployment.

Details of the Toyota Airbag Recall

According to Consumer Reports, this will be the final remedy for the recalled vehicles and the new airbags are from non-Takata suppliers. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front passenger and/or driver airbag inflators and airbag assemblies.

At least 23 deaths have been linked to defective Takata-brand airbags with hundreds of injuries also being reported. The airbags have affected nearly all major auto manufacturers.

Affected owners can expect to be notified beginning mid-December.
