Tyson Recalls Chicken Nuggets over Plastic Pieces
Tyson is recalling 132,520 pounds of fully cooked chicken nugget products due to a potential foreign matter contamination inside the product.
About the Tyson Chicken Nugget Recall
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the recall is due to consumer complaints of hard plastic pieces found inside certain Tyson chicken nugget products.
The plastic material, ranging from 21mm in length and 6.5mm in diameter, may have came from a plastic rod used in the production process.
Consumers are urged to not consume the recalled products and to either discard them or return them to the place of purchase. There have been no injuries or illnesses reported in regards to the recalled products.
The recall is classified as Class I, which indicates a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
Description of the Recalled Tyson Chicken Nuggets
The recalled products have establishment number “EST. 13556” printed next to the Best If Used By date.
The following products are part of the recall:
- 5-lb. bag containing “Tyson FULLY COOKED PANKO CHICKEN NUGGETS” with a “Best If Used By” date of July 18, 2017.
- Case codes: 2006SDL03 and 2006SDL33
- 20-lb. bulk packages containing “SPARE TIME Fully Cooked, Panko Chicken Nuggets, Nugget Shaped Chicken Breast Pattie Fritters With Rib Meat” with a product date of July 18, 2016.
- Case code: 2006SDL03
The 20-lb. packages were distributed for institutional use in Pennsylvania. Five-pound packages were shipped to retail locations across the country.
