Recall Recap – 2017 Begins with Major Vehicle Recalls


 

2017 is on track to be another busy year for vehicle recalls. The following are some of the top automobile recalls issued over the past two weeks.

2016 Buick Envision

  • # Recalled: 327 units were affected
  • Problem: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2016 Buick Envision vehicles manufactured Jan. 19, 2016 to March 18, 2016. The master cylinder brake lines may crack and leak brake fluid.
  • Resolution: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the master cylinder brake lines, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300. GM’s number for this recall is 16169.

2016 Ford Taurus; 2016*2017 Flex, Lincoln MKT; 2017 Explorer

  • # Recalled: 1,163 units affected
  • Problem: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2016 Ford Taurus; 2016-2017 Ford Flex, Lincoln MKT; 2017 Ford Explorer and Ford Explorer Police Interceptor Utility vehicles equipped with 3.5L GTDI engines. Improperly brazed turbocharger oil supply tubes may leak oil on engine components.
  • Resolution: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect, and if necessary, replace the turbocharger oil supply tubes, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on Jan. 23, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 16S46.

2011-2016 Honda Odyssey

  • # Recalled: 633,753 units affected
  • Problem: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2011-2016 Odyssey vehicles manufactured Aug. 17, 2010 to Oct. 1, 2015. The affected vehicles have second-row outboard seats that have a release lever that allows the seats to move for easier access to the third row of seats. This release lever may remain in the unlocked position allowing the seats to move unexpectedly.
  • Resolution: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install an additional bracket and spring to both second-row outboard seats, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin Jan. 23, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda’s number for this recall is KD5.

2016 Honda Odyssey

  • # Recalled: 7,549 units affected
  • Problem: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2016 Odyssey vehicles manufactured Sept. 23, 2016 to Oct. 24, 2016. The affected vehicles have a second-row center seat with a horizontal adjuster bar that may stick in the unlocked position, allowing the seat to unexpectedly slide. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, “Seat Systems.”
  • Resolution: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the slide function and replace the horizontal position adjustment bar, as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin Jan. 23, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda’s number for this recall is KD4.

2017 Honda Ridgeline

  • # Recalled: 9,179 units affected
  • Problem: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2017 Ridgeline AWD vehicles manufactured April 1, 2016 to Aug. 11, 2016. Water may enter the rear wiring harness through the connector located under the truck bed drain hole, possibly causing the connection terminals to corrode.
  • Solution: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear wiring harness and related components, replacing them as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin Jan. 24, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda’s number for this recall is KD3.

2016-2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque

  • # Recalled: 220 units affected
  • Problem: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport vehicles manufactured May 30, 2016 to Aug. 24, 2016, and 2016-2017 Range Rover Evoque vehicles manufactured June 7, 2016 to Aug. 26, 2016. The affected vehicles have front lower control arm fasteners that may fail due to an assembly error, possibly resulting in separation of the steering knuckle.
  • Solution: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will replace the hardware that connects the front lower control arm to the knuckle, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin Jan. 30, 2017. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover’s number for this recall is Q650/Q651
2013-2015 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class; 2014-2016 E-Class; 2015 S550; 2016 Maybach S600
  • # Recalled: 70 units affected
  • Problem: Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 SL550; 2013-2014 SL63 AMG; 2014-2016 E350; 2014 E350 Cabriolet, E350 Coupe; 2014-2015 S550; 2015 E350 Bluetec; 2015-2016 E400; 2016 E550 Coupe; and Maybach S600 vehicles manufactured Aug. 23, 2012 to Aug. 14, 2015. The affected vehicles use an electric power steering system that may have improperly soldered contacts inside the control unit, potentially resulting in the power steering system deactivating while driving.
  • Solution: MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the electric power steering control unit, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 2017. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372.
2013-2015 Nissan Altima; 2015-2016 Rogue; 2016 Maxima
  • # Recalled: 757 units affected
  • Problem: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Altima vehicles manufactured Jan. 3, 2013 to July 29, 2013; 2015-2016 Rogue vehicles manufactured Oct. 14, 2014 to Aug. 12, 2016; and 2016 Maxima vehicles manufactured June 4, 2015 to Aug. 19, 2015. An incorrect Occupant Classification System (OCS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) may have been installed in the front passenger seat. The incorrect ECU and seat combination may misclassify the front passenger seat occupant.
  • Solution: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ECU and update the OCS software free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by Feb. 12, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.
2015 Porsche 918 Spyder
  • # Recalled: 306 units affected
  • Problem: Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain model year 2015 918 Spyder vehicles manufactured Nov. 6, 2013 to July 27, 2015. The affected vehicles have front lower control arms that may crack at the ball joint.
  • Solution: Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will replace the lower control arms, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche’s number for this recall is AG09.
