NBC New York is reporting that a robbery suspect crashed into another car while fleeing from police, killing a woman and causing a multiple vehicle accident.
On Thursday, Derrick Perkins, who, according to police, is on parole for murder and has 10 priors, crashed his BMW into 78-year-old Roxina Clayton’s vehicle. The accident occurred near Linden Boulevard and 225th Street in Cambria Heights as Perkins was being chased by an undercover police car after he allegedly stole a phone from an auto body shop worker.
The surveillance video obtained by NBC 4 New York shows Perkins pull up near the body shop and get out of his car. According to the body shop owner, Perkins then approached a worker sitting outside the shop, and Perkins asked the worker if he wanted to buy his watch for $50. When the worker declined Perkins’ offer, Perkins allegedly took the worker’s phone out of his hand and told the worker not to follow him. Perkins then got in his car and left the scene.
After the alleged robbery, Perkins crashed into Clayton’s car while trying to escape the police. Perkins was taken into custody at the scene of the accident.
