Rebecca Ramsey3 months ago
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is launching their a new safety campaign in response data showing that an astounding 632 pedestrian deaths were recorded in Texas last year. The “Be Safe. Drive Smart” campaign will urge drivers and pedestrians to “slow down, stay alert, and obey traffic laws to increase their safety.”
About the “Be Safe. Drive Smart.” Pedestrian Safety Campaign
According to TxDOT’s website, “Be Safe. Drive Smart.” is a year-long public education and awareness effort aimed at saving lives and reducing crashes.
TxDOT began this state-wide initiative in response to the large number of deaths reported in Texas every year due to traffic accidents. In 2018, a total of 632 deaths in 5,694 traffic crashes were recorded. Of those accidents, 65 fatalities and 712 accidents happened in San Antonio alone.

Always cross at intersections or marked crosswalks. Look left, then right, then left again before proceeding.
Make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street. Never assume a driver sees you.
Be visible. Wear something light or reflective after dark.
Don’t be distracted by devices that take your eyes and ears off the road.
