According to reports, the driver of the car lost control on the road and crashed the car into a pillar. The crash happened on Loop 1604 in the far West Side.
A 15-year-old named Mark Anthony Nevarez II, died at the scene from his injuries. Nevarez was ejected from the car along with the driver. The driver and two women were taken to the hospital for treatment, one for life-threatening injuries.
The car had hit a cable barrier before crashing into the pillar and then overturning into the grass.
Almost 20 percent of accident deaths occur from the vehicle hitting objects off the road like telephone poles or trees.
About half of these type of crashes happen at night with alcohol often being a factor. Other significant factors can be speed, sleep, inattention, or a lack of visibility.
