According to WCTI 12, preliminary reports indicate the bus was traveling to West Craven High at around 6:30 am when it was side swiped by an 18-wheeler on Nelson Road near Vanceboro.
There were conflicting reports on the number of students on the bus at the time of the collision, with a Highway Patrol Trooper saying 15 students were on the bus while a Craven County Schools Public Information Officer told reporters 18 students were on the bus.
Video footage from the bus has been examined, and authorities say the vehicle in question had a blue and silver cab and a white male driver.
