According to WDAM, a man and woman died after their vehicle was hit by an 18-wheeler in Clay County, Arkansas on Wednesday morning.

Truck Driver may have been Asleep, Distracted

Officials say the double fatal accident happened around noon near the Clay County and Randolph County line on Highway 67/62. Police say a pickup truck was struck by a semi that was unable to maneuver a curve in the road.

WDAM reports that Christopher Bryant, the driver of the pickup, and Brenda Christopher, a passenger, died in the accident. A second passenger, Shirley Bumpas, was airlifted to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis for treatment.

Officials say that all indications point toward the semi-truck driver being asleep or distracted at the time of the crash, according to WDAM. The driver, Casapu Mihail, has been charged with manslaughter, negligent homicide, and a misdemeanor for third-degree battery. Mihail’s bond was set at $1 million.
