Seven Injured in Multiple-vehicle Wreck; Driver Faces Charges after Fleeing

According to KDVR, seven people were injured in a crash involving three-vehicles and one reckless driver in Colorado Springs, Colorado, early Sunday morning.

Details of the Car Crash

The injury accident occurred at the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and Constitution Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. local time. A man in a white pickup truck was speeding and driving erratically eastbound on Constitution Avenue when he ran through a red light.

A white Volkswagen heading south on Academy was hit by the pickup truck and a second car also traveling south. According to KDVR, the driver of the white pickup fled the scene on foot following the collision.

Two people in the Volkswagen required extrication by emergency crews, reports KDVR. Seven people involved in the crash were hospitalized – two sustained serious injuries in the crash, and five were treated and released.

The pickup truck driver, 23-year-old Daniel Aaron Simpson, was apprehended by police and placed under arrest for vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident, among other charges. Police located the man in the 4800 block of Escapardo Way at around 1:20 p.m.
