According to Fox 6 Now, a 17-year-old student was struck and killed by a school bus as she crossed the street on her way to school in Milwaukee’s south side.

Crash Investigation Ongoing

Police say Marisol Cevallos, a senior at Rufus King International High School, was crossing Oklahoma Avenue at around 6:30 a.m. local time when the accident occurred. As the 17-year-old crossed the street – in a crosswalk – a school bus turned right onto Oklahoma Avenue from 9th Avenue and struck the teen.

A witness says Cevallos clutched her chest and was unable to respond to him. According to Fox 6 Now, Cevallos died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the bus, a 62-year-old woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

At the time of the crash, the bus carried several young children, none of which sustained injuries. The driver of the bus had no previous incidents and had been with the busing company for 25 years. In addition, Fox 6 Now reports that there is currently no suspicion of intoxication.

Cevallos was wearing dark clothing at the time of the fatal crash, officials say.
