Tesla Recalls Model S Cars For Steering Issues

Tesla has issued recalls for their Model S sedans built before April 2016 after determining the steering bolts can corrode, potentially causing steering issues.

About the Tesla Steering Recall

According to Consumer Reports, Tesla has observed instances of excessive corrosion in the power steering bolts in colder climates. Tesla notes that vehicles areas in which calcium or magnesium road salts are frequently used are at higher risk of corrosion.

The automaker plans to replace the Model S power steering bolts, even in vehicles that are not currenly in “a highly corrosive environment.”

The recall is the larges ever issued by Tesla.

Tesla is also facing scrutiny for a fatal California crash which involved a Model X SUV running into a highway safety barrier near Mountain View.

Additional Details of the Tesla Steering Bolt Recall

The recall is limited to Model S sedans and does not affect the Model X SUV or the Model 3 sedan.

Repairs will be made free of cost to owners. Owners will be contacted to schedule repairs when parts are available in their region.
