Texas City Commissioner Charged in Fatal DUI Crash

Texas City Commissioner Dee Ann Haney, 54, has been charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter following a fatal pedestrian accident that left a father and son dead.

Details of the Fatal DUI Crash

According to KHOU, the crash occurred on Interstate 45 near Galveston after Midnight Monday.

Police arrived to the scene to find a Toyota Tacoma pulled over to the right shoulder and two deceased victims in a grassy area near the freeway. The decedents have been identified as Van Duoc Le, 59, and his 33-year-old son, Phue Hong Le.

Van Duoc Le’s son-in-law told police that the father and son were attempting to secure items in the bed of the Tacoma when a Ford F-150 veered over the shoulder and struck the two men.

The driver of the F-150 was identified as Dee Ann Haney who was detained at the scene on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Haney admitted to smoking marijuana before the crash.

Haney holds an at-large seat on the Texas City Commission and serves as a safety coordinator for Lab Safety and Student/Employee Safety Training at Texas A&M at Galveston.
