Three people were killed in a train accident in Mississippi.
Multiple sources are reporting that a total of three people – a father and two children – were killed instantly in an accident in which their pickup truck was hit by an Amtrak train in a small town in Mississippi on Wednesday.
A spokesperson from Amtrak released a statement saying that the Chicago-bound train hit the vehicle at about 6:11 p.m. on Wednesday. The collision happened in the Flora area, which is about 25 miles northwest of the Jackson area.
The coroner from Madison County has stated that a 35-year-old father and his two children, ages seven and one, were killed instantly in the collision due to blunt-force trauma. The coroner further stated that the man and the seven-year-old were wearing seatbelts and the younger child was in a car seat at the time of the accident.
No injuries were reported to the crew or the 127 passengers on board the train at the time of the accident.
