Three People Suffer Major Injuries in Hit-and-Run Accident

According to NBC Bay Area, three people sustained major injuries during a suspected hit-and-run accident in San Jose early Sunday morning.

Driver and Two Passengers Trapped for 35 Minutes

Emergency crews found three people trapped inside the gray Toyota Camry when they arrived at the crash site, says San Jose Fire Department Captain Mitch Matlow. The rescue to extract the three victims took 35 minutes, and they were transported to a local hospital to be treated, says Matlow.

The current conditions of those involved in the accident are unknown.

According to Matlow, the gray SUV that struck the victims fled from the scene.

According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety,

  • Approximately 11 percent of all police reported crashes involve at least one driver who flees the scene
  • Nearly 1,500 people die annually in hit-and-run crashes
  • 58 percent of fatal hit-and-run crashes occur on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
  • 47 percent of fatal hit-and-run crashes occur between 9 p.m. and 3 am.
