Three Workers Injured in Miami-Dade Construction Accident

Three workers were injured Thursday evening following a life malfunction at a construction site in Northwest Miami-Dade.

Rescuers Use Cranes to Extract Injured Workers

According to NBC Miami, the accident occurred at a job site at the intersection of Northwest 12th Street and Red Road, near the Miami International Airport.

The men were on scaffolding on the fourth floor when a lift malfunction caused the men to fall about 20 feet. Unable to use the damaged life, rescuers had to place the injured workers on to stretchers and use cranes to lower the workers to the ground below.

The workers were transported to a local trauma center for treatment.

Construction Accident Statistics

The following information was provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):

  • 4,836 workers were killed on the job in 2015. This averages to more than 93 deaths a week or more than 13 deaths every day.
  • Of the 4,379 worker fatalities that occurred in private industry, 937 were associated with construction.
  • The leading causes of construction-related deaths are:
    • Falls
    • Struck by object
    • Electrocutions
    • Caught-In/Between
