Town Council Member Hits Bicyclist, Faces DUI Charge

According to WBTW, a council member in McColl, South Carolina, faces a drunk driving charge after hitting a bicyclist with his car.

About the Drunk Driving Wreck

Franklin Vanduwey Carlisle, a town council member, was driving on High Street in McColl at around 11:10 p.m. local time when the injury accident occurred. Officials say Eric Bethea, 38, was riding his bike on High Street when he was hit by the car driven by the councilman.

WBTW reports that the bicyclist was taken to a hospital in Scotland County for treatment of minor injuries. Police noticed the significant damage to Carlisle’s vehicle and asked how the damage occurred.

Carlisle told police that he thought someone threw an object at his windshield, reports WBTW. Officials noticed the scent of alcohol coming from Carlisle and administered a field sobriety test. Carlisle was then arrested and charged with driving under the influence and collision. He has since been released on bond.
