Toyota is issuing a recall on 91,585 Prius vehicles due to issues surrounding the parking brake mechanism.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the foot-operated parking brake system has a cable that may disengage.
If the cable disengages while the transmission is not in the ‘Park’ gear and the ignition is on, the vehicle can roll away, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.
Toyota will notify owners of the recalled vehicles, and dealers will install a clip to ensure the cable does not disengage. This fix will be done at no cost to the owner. The recall is expected to start in December.
The vehicle recall affects 2016 – 2017 Toyota Prius vehicles manufactured between August 6, 2015, and October 3, 2016.
No other Toyota or Lexus vehicles are included in the recall.
