Trial Begins for Corpus Christi Man Involved in Fatal 2017 Drunk Diving Accident

Trial has begun for a suspected drunk driver accused of causing a fatal accident that left a mother dead and two children injured in Corpus Christi in 2017.

Details of the Fatal Corpus Christi Drunk Driving Accident

According to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, a jury has been selected in for the trial of John Andrew Alvarado. Alvarado faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault.

Alvarado was arrested following a crash on December 22, 2017 which claimed the life of Brenda Rodriguez. Alvarado struck Rodriguez’s vehicle in the 3700 block of Saratoga Boulevard at a speed of 120 mph, sending her vehicle into oncoming traffic where it was struck by a third vehicle head-on. Police say Alvarado was intoxicated when the crash occurred.

Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and her two children were transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

An investigation revealed that Rodriguez had signs of alcohol and cocaine in her system, but had been driving normally at the time of the crash.

Alvarado has separate charges pending concerning felony drug possession, money laundering, and child endangerment.
