College Roommates Killed in Violent 18-Wheeler Crash
Two young women, Nicolette Huebotter, 24, and Marissa Rodrigues, 26, were killed in an early morning crash on January 7 while they were out celebrating Huebotter’s birthday.
About the Fatal Trucking Accident
According to ABC 13, the accident occurred in Rosenberg, Texas, on Highway 59 when the pickup truck carrying the two victims collided with an 18-wheeler. The accident ripped the 18-wheeler’s trailer apart and split the pickup truck in two.
Four people were in the Chevrolet Silverado pickup, the driver, who was Huebotter’s boyfriend, was not hospitalized, the other surviving passenger was. A nearby construction worker reported that one of the victims was thrown from the vehicle into a nearby ditch.
The victims in the pickup had been out celebrating Nicolette Huebotter’s 24th birthday and had stopped by a McDonalds just before the crash.
The driver of the 18 wheeler was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash is being investigated; the cause is still unclear.
Trucking Accident Statistics
According to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 3,978 large trucks and buses were involved in fatal crashes in 2014, which is a five percent decrease from 2013.
A total of 3,852 people died in accidents involving trucks and buses in 2015, 16 percent of these fatalities were truck occupants, and 69 percent were occupants of cars and other passenger vehicles.
