Tractor-Trailer Crashes Head-On with Pickup Truck, Killing Driver
According to The Times Record News, a woman was killed after she was hit by a semi-truck near her home south of Windthorst, Texas, on Thursday morning.
Truck Driver Confused about Direction of Travel
Mary Laverne Bevers, 48, was driving north on U.S. 281 near the intersection of State Highway 16 when the fatal wreck happened. Bevers was in the process of pulling her pickup truck into her driveway when she was struck by a tractor-trailer head-on at around noon.
Officials say Bevers was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was ejected from her pickup truck. According to The Times Record News, Bevers suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer did not sustain injuries in the collision.
Texas Department of Public Safety officials say the truck driver was unsure about the correct direction of travel at the end of a construction zone near the crash site, reports The Times Record News. The big rig was traveling south in a northbound lane on U.S. 281 when it struck Bevers.
