One of the teens, a 15-year-old girl, was airlifted to University Hospital in critical condition, while the other teen, a 16-year-old boy was also taken to an area hospital, although his condition was not disclosed.
A witness of the accident, Jennifer Palacios stopped to help the girl and stating that the girl’s breathing was erratic, saying, “to be there with her and holding her and the way she was breathing. That scared me.”
Palacios further stated that she believes one of the causes of the accidents is that there are no sidewalks, and that a lot of kids from Judson High School walk that route. Both of the teens in the accident are students of Judson High School.
According to another witness, the teens were in a group of at least five when the girl was hit while they were trying to cross the street near the high school.
Another witness further stated that the driver of the vehicle tried to stop before hitting the teens.
