Two German Tourists Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash Outside Las Vegas
Crash Occurred in Construction Zone
The Monday afternoon crash occurred on Blue Diamond Road near the State route 159 turn off. A dump truck was unable to brake, causing it to crash into a car. The truck, carrying a heavy load and hauling a back hoe, continued down a hill and wrecked into the German’s recreational vehicle.
According to News3LV, the two Germans, age 78 and 72, died at the scene. The drivers of the dump truck and car received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.
The debris from the motorhome caused a significant traffic backup during the investigation of the crash. Traffic between Las Vegas and Pahrump was delayed for hours, according to News3LV.

- In 2014, there were 3,903 people killed and an estimated 111,000 people injured in crashes involving large trucks.
- Of these fatalities in 2014, 73% were occupants of other vehicles.
- From 2013 to 2014, there was a 19% increase in the number of injured occupants of other vehicles involved in large-truck traffic crashes.
