Two pedestrians were crossing at the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and North Carefree Circle when the fatal pedestrian accident occurred. At around 8:00 p.m. local time, the two pedestrians were hit by a car while in the crosswalk.
KKTV reports that one of the pedestrians died in the crash. The other pedestrian was hospitalized with serious injuries. Police were originally told that the driver had fled the scene following the collision, but the driver returned to the scene shortly after driving away.
No charges have been filed, reports KKTV. The investigation is ongoing, and it is still unclear if the pedestrians or the motor vehicle had the right of way at the time of the crash. Officials do not believe that speed played a role in the fatal crash, but they are still investigating whether alcohol was involved.
