An investigation is underway to determine the cause of a building explosion in Westminster, MD on Thursday afternoon, according to WBOC 10 News. Two women were seriously injured in the explosion.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, deaths from fire and burn injuries are the third leading cause of fatal home injuries. In 2010, on average one person was killed in a fire every 169 minutes; someone was injured every 30 minutes. Most, about 85%, fire-related fatalities occur in homes. Most people killed in fires die from smoke or toxic gas inhalation rather than burn injuries.
