This Week in Auto Recalls

This week has seen recalls of vehicles manufactured by Chevrolet, GMC, Infiniti, Jeep, Nissan, and Mazda. You can check if your vehicle was among these recalls by reviewing the information below or by visiting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website at www.safecar.gov.

Mazda Airbag Recall

Units Affected: 80,000

Model Years Affects:

  • 2007-2009 and 2012 Mazda CX-7
  • 2007-2009 and 2012 Mazda CX-9
  • 2007-2009 and 2012 Mazda 6

Problem: Front passenger airbag inflators manufactured by Takata may deploy with excess force, causing airbags to rupture and spray shrapnel throughout the vehicle cabin and into occupants. Defective Takata airbags have been linked to 19 deaths and 180 injuries.

GMC Truck Recall

Units Affected: 29,647

Model Years Affects:

  • 2017 Chevrolet Silverado
  • 2017 GMC Sierra

Problem: Owner’s manual for affected vehicles may be missing vital instruction on how to properly tether a child car seat to the vehicles’ anchorage system. This can create an increased risk of child injury in the event of a crash. These vehicles are determined to be in violation of requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 225, “Child Restraint Anchorage Systems.”

Infiniti Engine Stall Recall

Units Affected: 14,192

Model Years Affects:

  • 2016-2018 Infiniti Q50
  • 2016-2018 Infiniti Q60

Problem: Certain vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine can experience a software defect which may allow the fuel level in the main tank to be too low to supply fuel to the engine, resulting in an engine stall when the vehicles are in operation. Such a stall can greatly increase the risk of crash.

Jeep Indicator Lamp Malfunction

Units Affected: 3,002

Model Years Affects:

  • 2017 Jeep Renegade

Problem: A software error may cause multiple malfunction indicator lamps to illuminate when no malfunction exists. Such a malfunction may leave a driver unaware of a true malfunction, creating an increased risk of crash.

Nissan Seatbelt Recall

Units Affected: 44,264

Model Years Affects:

  • 2016-2017 Nissan Titan
  • 2016-2017 Nissan Titan XD

Problem: A design flaw in the rear seatbelt assembly may not adequately protect the occupants head, allowing it to contact the D-ring bolt trim cap. This can result of an increased risk of head injury in the event of a collision.
