Heather Kinsfather, 33, was traveling at speeds in excess of 90 mph on Interstate 5 when the car crash occurred. With her 5-year-old child in the back seat, Kinsfather sideswiped a vehicle near a weigh station north of Ridgefield before taking off again. Officials say Kinsfather then struck a pickup truck in the rear, causing the truck to roll over into the median.
The woman inside the pickup truck was helped out of her vehicle by good Samaritans, reports KATU. The 40-year-old was later transported to the hospital for treatment before being released. The five-year-old child sustained a head injury in the crash and was taken to the hospital.
According to KATU, a drug recognition expert conducted sobriety tests on Kinsfather. Initial indications show that she was likely high on meth at the time of the crash. She has been charged with vehicular assault, DUI, child endangerment, and hit and run. Officials released Kinsfather but informed her that she could be jailed if convicted.
