Woman Injured by Falling Debris after Semi Strikes Overpass

According to WISH, a semi-truck strikes an overpass, causing debris to fall onto the roadway, damaging several vehicles and injuring a woman in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Tuesday morning.

Details of Injury Accident

The injury accident occurred at around 8:15 a.m. local time when a semi-trailer carrying a car crusher collided with a highway overpass on Interstate 465, causing significant damage to the bridge. Officials believe the car crusher malfunctioned and became too tall to pass under the bridge.

WISH reports that the collision brought down large chunks of concrete and steel girders onto the road below. Several large chunks of debris crashed through a woman’s windshield, luckily only causing minor injuries. Christine Haraburda, 28, was transported to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital for treatment. Nobody else was injured in the crash.

From the crash and falling debris, six vehicles sustained damage in the incident. WISH reports that the road will be closed as crews work to repair the overpass and road below. Northbound Interstate 465 is closed between 10th street and Interstate 70.
