A woman was killed and her daughter was critically injured in an alleged drunk driving accident in Arvada.
The Denver Post is reporting that one woman was killed and her 15-year-old daughter was critically injured on Sunday night after they were involved in an accident in which an alleged drunk driver ran a red light and hit their vehicle.
24-year-old Jose Sandoval Crus was arrested for investigation of drunk driving and fleeing the scene of an accident, according to Jill McGranahan, a spokeswoman for the Arvada police. The alleged drunk driver was treated for minor injuries before he was booked into the Jefferson County Detention Facility.
Formal charges are pending in regards to the driver, but another man, a passenger in the suspect’s car was also arrested at the scene after he and the driver fled the vehicle.
The woman who was killed in the accident has been identified as 40-year-old Monica Zapata, of Westminster, by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
The accident happened when Zapata entered into the intersection heading west on 80th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard at about 10:05 p.m. on Sunday evening. The suspect was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee when he drove through a red light and slammed into the victim’s Chevrolet Malibu.
