Woman Struck, Killed by 18-wheeler while outside Her Car on Highway

According to NBC Connecticut, a woman suffers from fatal injuries after being hit by a semi while outside her vehicle on an interstate in Old Lyme, Connecticut, on Thursday morning.

Details of Fatal Pedestrian-Semi Collision

Ashley Ferguson, 31, pulled her car over onto the shoulder of southbound Interstate 95 to check on her child in the backseat. The accident occurred between exits 70 and 71 when a passing 18-wheeler crashed into the woman as she was outside the car.

NBC Connecticut reports that Ferguson was pronounced dead at the scene. Her child and an adult passenger did not sustain injuries in the fatal crash, though the child was hospitalized as a precautionary measure. The tractor-trailer driver, 47-year-old Nicolae Marcu, refused medical attention.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and police are searching for anyone who may have witnessed the crash.
