Worker Killed in East Grand Forks Construction Accident


A construction worker was killed Monday when he was involved in an accident at a East Grand Forks job site.

Details of the Fatal East Grand Forks Construction Accident

According to reports, 58-year-old Richard G. Bruce was fatally injured around 5:00 pm Monday when he fell through the garage rafters of a home that was under construction.

Emergency responders noted that Bruce fell about 10 feet to the concrete below. He was rushed to Altru Hospital where he later died.

The incident remains under investigation.

Construction Accident Statistics

The following information was provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):

  • 4,836 workers were killed on the job in 2015. This averages to more than 93 deaths a week or more than 13 deaths every day.
  • Of the 4,379 worker fatalities that occurred in private industry, 937 were associated with construction.
  • The leading causes of construction-related deaths are:
    • Falls
    • Struck by object
    • Electrocutions
    • Caught-In/Between
