The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on a Wednesday morning in Crown Point, the Cottage Court subdivision located on 97th Place and Carroll Court. Emergency responders along with the Crown Point police were urgently rushed to the scene in response to a disturbing service call reporting a construction site injury.
The male victim was recognized by the Lake County coroner’s as 69-year-old Scott Beier. Authorities have reported that Beiber was involved in an accidental Bobcat excavator vehicle mishap which led to him acquiring critical head and chest injuries. He was later sent to Franciscan Health Crown Point Center where he could not be revived due to the seriousness of his sustained injuries.
Authorities of Crown Point’s investigation team along with the Serious Crash Reconstruction team are actively inspecting the incident to make sure it was an accident occurrence. So far, police have ruled this tragedy as solely an accident.
Approximately 5,147 workers died from work-related accidents as of 2017.
Total fatal injury rate is 3.5 per 100,000 full time workers.
