Construction Worker Injured in Accident involving Crane, Semi-Truck

According to the Fort Myers Beach Observer, a construction worker was injured on the job after the crane he was operating was hit by a semi in Fort Myers, Florida, on Tuesday morning.

About the Construction Accident

The construction accident occurred on the Terminal Access Road at Ben Hill Griffin Parkway at around 11:00 a.m. local time. Construction was being done on the overpass above the roadway, and the outside lanes were closed. An automobile-hauling semi-truck traveling eastbound crashed into the underneath portion of an extended boom crane.

The crane operator, 46-year-old Charles Steven Gibbard, was tossed from his safety harness and into the roadway. The Fort Myers Beach Observer reports that Gibbard was seriously injured and taken to Lee Memorial Hospital.

The accident remains under investigation, according to the Fort Myers Beach Observer. The construction worker remains in the hospital, listed in serious condition.
