Federal Inspectors Investigate Fatal Boston Crane Accident

Federal investigators are working to determine the cause of a deadly crane accident that claimed the life of one worker at an Everett construction site.

Details of the Fatal Boston Crane Accident

According to the Boston Globe, a crane operator was fatally injured Tuesday afternoon while working at the construction site for the Wynn Boston Harbor resort and casino.

The victim, who has not been named, was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital around 2:45 pm Tuesday. He died Wednesday.

Reports indicate the man was employed as a subcontractor working under Boston-based lead contractor Suffolk Construction.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has sent inspectors to investigate the site and gather information. Currently, the events leading up to the fatal incident have not been released.

  • 5,190 workers were killed on the job in 2016. This averages to more than 99 deaths a week or more than 14 deaths every day.
  • Of the 4,693 worker fatalities that occurred in private industry, 991 were associated with construction.
  • The leading causes of construction-related deaths are:
    • Falls
    • Struck by object
    • Electrocutions
    • Caught-In/Between
