BMW Announces Recall of 77,000 Vehicles due to Airbag Problems

According to the New York Times, BMW will be recalling 77,000 after reports that electronic issues may cause the passenger seat air bag to become disabled.

About the BMW Recall

In a report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), auto manufacturer BMW stated that issues with an electronic sensing mat in the front passenger seat may disable the airbag, causing it not to deploy in the incident of a collision.

This most recent recall is connected to a 2008 action in which BMW recalled 200,000 vehicles for a similar problem. The previous recall was the result of an NHTSA investigation.

Though BMW did never conceded that there was a safety problem in 2008, the auto maker did acknowledge increasing warranty claims justifying the current recall.
