Body of Texas College Student Found After Jet-Ski Accident
The body of a 20-year old Texas college student who was involved in a jet-ski and kayaking incident was found over the weekend.
Details of the Accident
According to ABC Channel 13 News, the body of 20-year old Manuel Carbajal Rivas was located in Lake Nasworthy in San Angelo, Texas.
Rivas was kayaking this past Saturday with a friend when a jet-ski collided with their kayak, sending the two into the water. The friend, Natalie Valles, sustained a head injury from the incident and was taken to a nearby hospital; her injury was proven to be non-life-threatening and she was later released.
Officials began a search of the lake that Saturday after the incident, but the body of Rivas was not located until early Sunday morning.
Both Rivas and Valles attended Angelo State University in San Angelo and on Sunday the president of the university, Brian May, released a heartfelt statement concerning the incident, extending his condolences to the families on the university’s behalf.
Jet Skier Did Not See Kayakers
The individual on the jet-ski, an unidentified 29-year old male, was not injured in the incident.
The man told investigators that he did not see the Valles and Rivas’s kayak before the crash, claiming he was heading in the direction of the setting sun.
A sobriety test was administered to the individual, which he passed; no charges or word of further investigation have been reported.
