Bus Driver Found Guilty in Fatal Crash

The driver who crashed a charter bus in the Bronx in 2011 has been found guilty of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. The bus crash left 15 dead and 18 wounded. The victims were on a bus ride from a Connecticut casino to New York’s Chinatown when the accident occurred.

Bus Driver Found Guilty

  • Ophadell Williams was found guilty of one count of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
  • The judge ordered Williams to spend 30 days in prison and pay a $500 fine.

Prosecutors Allege Bus Driver was “Driving Drowsy”

According to reports, prosecutors argued that Williams was “driving drowsy,” to the extent that it was as if he was drunk behind the wheel at the time of the crash. Williams also faced several other charges, including:

  • Manslaughter
  • Criminally negligent homicide
  • Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle
