Destiny Baker3 years ago

The Berkshire Eagle reports that a Pittsfield, Massachusetts bus driver is under investigation after hitting a pedestrian at an intersection.

About the Massachusetts Bus Accident

  • Jo Ann Losinger, 61, was crossing an intersection when she was struck by a Berkshire Regional Transport Authority (BRTA) bus.
  • The bus, driven by Charles Hillard, was making a left-hand turn leading to the accident.
  • Ms. Losinger died of her injuries Sunday, four days after the accident.
  • The BRTA states this is the first recorded fatality to be linked to the transit authority since its founding in 1974.
  • Mr. Hillard has been a full time driver for the company since 2002, and worked as a part time driver during the 1990’s.

Investigations into the Massachusetts Bus Accident

  • Mr. Hillard has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
  • Video footage from the bus’s camera has been turned over to the police by the BRTA as evidence.
  • The police plan to use the footage to determine who had the right of way, if the Ms. Losinger was using the crosswalk properly and to determine the bus’s rate of speed.
  • The BRTA is also conducting an investigation as is standard procedure.
