Charges Filed in Fort Collins Pedestrian Accident

A Colorado State University student has been arrested after fleeing the scene of a pedestrian accident that left a 14-year-old girl seriously injured.

Details of the Accident

According to CBS4 Denver, 21-year-old Samantha Bush attempting to turn from westbound Orchard Place onto southbound Timber Lane when she struck a 14-year-old pedestrian that was crossing Timber Lane.

Police report that Bush initially stopped and spoke to the injured teen. However, she soon fled the scene when other began arriving.

The victim was transported to Poudre Valley Hospital before being transferred to Children’s Medical Center in Denver. The teen suffered serious head trauma and at least one broken bone.

Bush was tracked down by police, but attempted to mislead investigators by claiming another driver was responsible.

Bush is currently facing several charges, including careless driving resulting in injury, failing to give notice or render aid, and false reporting to authorities.

  • 4,743 pedestrians were killed in traffic collisions in 2012, averaging to one pedestrian death every 2 hours.

  • In 2012, more than 20-percent of children between the ages of 5 and 15 who were killed in traffic collisions were pedestrians.
  • Pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely to be killed in a car crash each trip than occupants of passenger vehicles.
