Charter Bus Accident Kills Eight, Injures 40

More than 40 people were injured and eight people were killed in a Saturday morning bus accident in Webb County.

KSAT 12 News in San Antonio is reporting that a charter bus accident happened on Saturday morning in a rural portion of norther Webb County. The accident left eight people dead and more than 40 injured.

The accident reportedly happened along Highway 83, just south of the Webb/Dimmit County line.

The bus was traveling to Eagle Pass from San Juan, in the Rio Grande Valley when the driver of the bus lost control, causing the vehicle to rollover.

A total of seven people were killed at the scene of the accident, and another was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to a spokesman from the Department of Public Service. Investigators who responded to the scene of the accident have indicated that a total of 22 people were taken to the Laredo Medical Center, while seven others were taken to a hospital in Dimmit County. The extent of the injuries of those taken to the hospital is currently unknown.

There were a total of 51 people on the bus at the time of the accident.
