A child was airlifted to the hospital in Buford, Georgia, in critical condition after being involved in a serious accident.

11 Alive News is reporting that a child was air lifted from the scene of an accident which temporarily blocked northbound traffic along Interstate 85 in Buford on Thursday.

The accident happened along the interstate near the intersection at Buford Drive. According to officials, a tractor trailer and an SUV were involved in the accident and a woman and a child had to be extricated out of their vehicle by emergency responders.

The child was air lifted to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with critical injuries and the mother was taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries.

The initial cleanup took a few hours but was completed ahead of the estimated time.

No other information was made immediately available regarding the conditions of both the mother and the child.
